Albert Crow, 86, of Cherokee, Iowa, formerly of Corning, died Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at Careage Hills Nursing Home, Cherokee, Iowa, following a brief illness.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00PM on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at the United Methodist Church in Corning, Iowa, with inurnment with Military Rites provided by American Legion OURCQ 117 will be at Oak Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Pearson-Coen-Beaty Family Funeral Service of Corning.
Albert was born on February 8, 1923 in Grant Township, Adams County, Iowa to William K. and Dora (Saunders) Crow. He attended rural schools and graduated from Lenox High School in 1941. He worked on the farm until he entered the United States Army in March of 1943. He served in the European Theater during World War II until December 31, 1945. Following his military discharge, Albert returned home to work as a farmhand until 1949 when he began working at Biggers Clothing Store.
On September 21, 1948 he married Bernadine Thomas. Albert became the Adams County Clerk of Court in 1955, where he worked until his retirement in 1987.
Albert enjoyed golfing and singing in the Methodist Church Choir. He was active in the American Legion Post OURCQ 0117 and V.F.W. Blue Lodge #275.
He is survived by a daughter, Amy (husband Henry) Spunar of Park Ridge, Illinois; son, Bill (wife Mary) Crow of Cherokee, Iowa; six grandchildren: Christopher and Nicki Spunar, Keenan and Quintin Crow, Sheena Smith, Stephanie (Smith) Thill and a great-grandson, Roman Thill.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church.
