Anna Lee “Annie” Luther was born on December 4, 1929 on a farm outside of Farragut, Iowa. She was the oldest of five children born to Martin Ernest and Jessie Irene (Browning) Walter. She attended various country schools and graduated from Clarinda High School in 1948. Annie married Richard “Dick” Luther on June 26, 1948 and settled on a farm north of Prescott to raise their four children.
Annie was a homemaker most of her life and later went to work at the Stringtown café after her four children left home. She then worked at Easy Heat and later at Okey Vernon Bank in Prescott as a teller. When she and Dick moved to Corning in 1996, Annie transferred to the Okey bank in Corning where she later retired.
Annie was an avid sports fan and the Luthers never missed a sporting event that their children and grandchildren participated in. They continued to attend ball games until Dick’s death in 2016. Annie then moved back to Prescott and was proud to be a part of the Red Hats, the Tuesday morning Coffee club, Friday morning coffee club, and Wednesday afternoon card club. She was an active member of the Prescott United Church and a huge Iowa Hawkeye and Kansas City Chiefs fan. She loved to watch college football, basketball, baseball and the World Series and often planned her social events around the tv sports schedule. She loved visiting with people and never missed an opportunity to go somewhere unless there was a ballgame on tv.
Annie is survived by her children Randy (Jeanine) Luther of Keller, Texas and Julie (David) Krauth of Prescott, daughters-in-law Cathy Luther of Kansas City, and Lisa Luther of Fontanelle, grandchildren Hilary Luther (James Prescott), Bethany Luther, Joshua (Amanda) Luther, Jade Krauth (Patrick Freese) and Jena (Travis Erickson) Krauth, eight great-grandchildren, sister Shirley Freeman of Clarinda, brother Marty Walter of Bedford, and sister Marlys Gilson of Wichita, sister-in-law Martha Walter of Stanton, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Annie was preceded in death by her husband Dick, sons Alan in 2009 and Jeff in 2010, her parents, brother Val Gene Walter, in-laws Marion, Erma, and Edna Luther, Glen and Virginia Luther, and Gerald and Fannie Luther.
