Bernadane Ellen Quinn, 92, formerly of Ames died October 18, 2006, at Bethany Manor in Story City, Iowa. Bernadane was born October 17, 1914, on a farm near Lincoln Center in Adams County, Iowa. Bernadane was the first of five children (the only girl) born to Harvey and Maud (Caywood) Peterson. She grew up in that area, attended a one-room country school and graduated in 1932 from Corning High School with a Normal Training Certificate to teach.
Bernadane taught in a one-room country school before her marriage to Joe Quinn on October 15, 1934, at St. Timothys Catholic Church, Reno. They were the parents of four daughters. They farmed in Lincoln Township in Adams County until Joes death in 1965. In 1967, Bernadane moved to Ames and worked at the University Book Store until her retirement in 1979. She was an avid reader, a hiker, enjoyed baking and was devoted to her family.
She is survived by daughters: Kathryn (Gary) Aitchison, Ames, IA; Ellen Quinn, Austin, TX; Patricia Hensley, Cumberland, IA; and Karen (Jeremiah) Quinn-Shanahan, Westborough, MA. Also surviving are eight grandsons, four granddaughters, twenty-five great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, four sisters-in-law and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; son-in-law Larry Hensley; four younger brothers, Louis, Max, Dale and Bill Peterson; one great-granddaughter, eight brothers-in-law, and six sisters-in-law.
