Beverly Ann (Looney) Mackey was born July 20, 1948 in Creston, Iowa to Clelland and Evelyn (Jones) Looney. She passed away May 28, 2022 at the age of 73 at home in rural Diagonal, Iowa. She attended elementary and middle school in Cromwell, Iowa and then transferred to Creston High School, where she graduated in 1966. Throughout high school she was active in choir and band, and was named homecoming queen her senior year. Bev then attended Southwestern Community College in Creston and received her Associate of Arts degree in 1968. She later received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa in 1987.
In December of 1968, Beverly married Eugene (“Doc”) Kuhns, Jr. From this union three children were born: Matthew, Samantha and Nathan. She enjoyed raising her children on the family farm in Adair County, Iowa. As a mother she was nurturing and made her children feel safe, loved and supported. She enjoyed watching her children participate in various sporting events and activities. She also enjoyed playing tennis and gathering with friends to play cards and work on various creative projects. During her years in Adair County she was the co-owner of a restaurant in Greenfield and later worked several years at a home décor shop in Creston. Her marriage to “Doc” ended in 1997, after which, she moved to Creston. While in Creston she worked at a local bank, where she formed new and long-lasting friendships with her co-workers. During this time she also became a grandmother, which became one of her true joys in life.
In 2006, Bev married Richard (“Rick”) Mackey and they later settled in rural Ringgold County, Iowa. In the years that followed, much of her attention was focused on her grandchildren. She attended numerous sporting and other events for them. Her favorite summer activity was hosting Grandma Camp and making memories and bonds that the cousins will cherish forever. Other enjoyments were quilting with her sister and sister-in-law, spending time with friends, reading, volunteering at the Cromwell Church and surprisingly, road trips on the back of Rick’s Road King. Bev is best known for her infectious smile, and her kind, sweet, loving, gentle, genuine nature.
Beverly was preceded in death by her parents.
