Carol Jean (Moore) Shuler was born February 25, 1939, in Villisca, Iowa. She was the oldest daughter of Harold Laverne “Pepper” and Frances Loretta (Long) Moore. She attended the rural Frog Pond School and graduated from Lenox High School. Carol passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on March 7, 2025, an emotional moment that fell exactly three years after her husband, Bill’s passing.
A cherished member of our rural Iowa community, Carol married her high school sweetheart, Bill Shuler, on August 24, 1958, at Fairview Church. Together, they farmed south of Corning and raised three children. They were privileged to share over 63 years of marriage together.
Carol worked alongside Bill in the farm fields and later in administration at Corning Hospital until her retirement. In her retirement, she also worked for Pearson Funeral home for many years, where her compassion and gentle spirit provided comfort to countless families during difficult times.
A wonderful cook, Carol proudly passed her baking skills down to her granddaughters, especially for making bread and pies, and they hold those memories dear. She also had exceptional quilting skills, creating beautiful quilts that will be treasured by her family for generations. Carol found joy in her garden and took great pride in her flower beds, which brought beauty to her home and smiles to everyone who visited.
Carol was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, deeply woven into the fabric of our community. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bill Shuler, in 2022; her parents; her brother Marty Moore; and her granddaughter, Kari Lee Shuler.
She is survived by her three children: son Bill (Lynda) Shuler of Corning, son John (Dawn) Shuler of Corning, and daughter Catherine (Pat) Connor of Lenexa, KS. Her grandchildren include Bill (Jill) Shuler of Brooks, Aimee (Klint) Bissell of Bedford, Stacie (Colton) McNinch of Ankeny, IA, Stephanie (Ryan) Mayer of Harmony, MN, Patrick (Kristen) Connor of Bonner Springs, KS, Katie (Chris) Mushrush of Elmdale, KS, Dustin Shuler and Morgan Shuler. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Braydon Bissell, Tucker Bissell, Kyle Shuler, Payton Shuler, Addison Shuler, Elyne McNinch, Piper McNinch, Carter Mayer, KyleeAnn Mayer, and Henry Connor. She is additionally survived by two sisters, Judy (Bob) Brown of Goodyear, AZ, and Fern (Dave) Frances of Highland Village, TX, as well as nieces, nephews, and friends.
