D. Marie Shimer

D. Marie Shimer, the daughter of Elmer Alvin Dudley and Dora Mae (Brown) Dudley, was born February 19, 1952, in Creston, Iowa. Marie entered eternal rest on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 at Greater Regional Medical Center, at the age of sixty-four years, eleven months, and eleven days.
Marie was educated in the Creston Public Schools. Marie lived her entire life in Creston. She was united in marriage to Jackie Joe Shimer on January 25, 1969 in Creston, Iowa. Marie and Jack were foster parents for two boys before having two of their own children: Paul and Paula.
Marie worked as a baker and cook at Berning’s Motor Inn for over six years. She also worked for Hardee’s in Creston and for Papetti’s in Lenox, for several years. Marie loved children and provided licensed, home day care for many years. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Marie’s hobbies included sewing with her mom and grandmother and she was an avid vegetable gardener.
Left to cherish Marie’s memory are her children: Paul Shimer, Creston, Iowa; Paula Shimer, Creston, Iowa; three grandchildren: Jordan Shimer, Jenna Shimer and Brenna Shimer, all of Creston, Iowa; three nieces and many cousins.
Preceding Marie in death was her husband: Jack Shimer; her parents: Elmer Dudley and Dora Dudley-Smith; three aunts: Nomi Young; Lucille Speed and Lorraine Emhoff; uncle: Ed Dudley; several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
