Dan L Sitzman

Dan L. Sitzman, son of Fred and Dorothy (Morgenstern) Sitzman, was born May 8, 1957 in Nebraska City, NE. Dan entered into eternal rest on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA at the age of fifty-six years.
Dan was raised in Hamburg, IA until moving to Osceola. He graduated from Clark Community High School with the Class of 1975. On January 6, 1979, Dan was united in marriage to Jeanette Brown at the Osceola Christian Church. To this union three sons were born: Jim, Thomas and Brian.
Dan began farming in Clarke County and farmed in the area. In the early years, Dan worked for a company that sandblasted and painted water towers. He also worked on a sanitation route for several years, and then started his career in law enforcement. He started his career with the Lucas County Sheriff’s Posse in 1991. In 1993, Dan got his first full time job as Murray Chief of Police. At that time, he attended and graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy on March 11, 1994. In June of 1995 he joined the Lenox Police Department where he served until 2001. Dan joined the Corning Police Department in 2000 and served until 2004 when he joined the Adams County Sheriff Department and remained until his retirement in December 2012.
Dan enjoyed woodworking and was active in Boy Scouts and FFA as a younger man. He loved spending time with his kids and grandkids.
Dan was a member of the Corning Masonic Instruction Lodge #275, member of the Adams County Sheriff Reserves and Iowa State Sheriff’s Deputies Association.
Left to cherish Dan’s memory is his wife, Jeanette Sitzman of Corning, Iowa; sons: Jim Sitzman (significant other, Madaline Waltz) of Orient, IA, Thomas Sitzman (significant other, Linda Coleman) of Corning, IA and Brian Sitzman of Corning, IA; eight grandchildren: Aiana, K.C., Sami and Braven Sitzman and Alexis, Joe, Samora and Roslia Scarpello; brother, Joe (Pam) Sitzman of Woodburn, IA and Mike Sitzman of Osceola, IA; mother-in-law, Lois Brown of Osceola, IA; sisters: Sue Smith (significant other, Randy Kernen) of Bedford, IA and Nancy (Brian) Helland of West Des Moines, IA; sister-in-law, Donna Sitzman of Oseola, IA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dave Sitzman; brother-in-law, Dave Smith and father-in-law, Marvin Brown.
