David Sylvester Libby, the son of Glenn Orin and Cleo Marie (Gilbert) Libby, was born in the family farmhouse in Madison County, IA on June 20, 1935. David was raised on the farm and educated in Grand River Township #7 Country School until attending high school in Macksburg. After his school years, David helped on the family farm and farming became his passion. He would later meet the love of his life at the Roller Skating Rink in Winterset. He married Marilyn Joan Imboden on August 28, 1955, at the Penn Center Church in Madison County. Five children were born to this union: Cindy, Patty, Ronda, Deb and Dan.
Following the completion of a Correspondence Course, David worked as a Diesel Mechanic for Dale Gray’s Implement in Winterset. He also drove a truck, hauling grain for Pioneer Seed Company. David did Custom Combining for area farmers and raised hogs for several years. In 1971, David was proud to accept the 2nd place award in the Level Land Corn Yield contest with a yield of 142.76 bushels/acre. David also worked as a foreman at Purolator in Creston and was a Security Guard at Southwestern Community college until retiring in 1988.
Family was very important to David and his hobbies and interests always centered around his wife and children. The family took many trips to the Rocky Mountains, especially the Estes Park area. They enjoyed camping in many places. First with a tent and eventually a 5th wheel camper. He would often times, bring along his prized Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle. David had a fondness for German Shepherd dogs and has owned four of them. When he was younger, David was a drummer in a local band and developed a love for Big Band music. He also enjoyed being a Ham Radio Operator for several years.
Preceding David in death were his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Helen and Clifford Imboden; a half-brother, Harry Saxton; a half-sister, Eugenia Lattig and his step-mother, Isabelle Libby.
David is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn Libby of Creston; his five children: Cindy (husband Dan) Woods of Orient, IA, Patty (husband Jeff) Kiddoo of Macksburg, IA, Ronda (husband Brad) Waltz of Creston, Deb (husband Curtis) Taylor of Grimes, IA and Dan (wife Teresa) Libby of Creston; 13 grandchildren; 1 step grandchild; 14 great-grandchildren; 8 step great-grandchildren; and 3 step great-great-grandchildren; Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
