Dean Richard Hartsook, the son of Ralph S. and Elsie (Capps) Hartsook, was born on April 14, 1930, in Richland Township, west of Orient in Adair County, Iowa. Dean entered eternal rest on January 7, 2009, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of seventy-eight years, eight months, and twenty-five days.
Dean graduated from Afton High School with the class of 1948. On June 1, 1951, he married Harriett C. Schoenhair at the Methodist Church in Afton.
Dean farmed all of his life. He farmed his parents farm northeast of Afton which he later purchased. He also hauled machinery for John Deere for twenty years and developed a hobby for collecting John Deere Toy Tractors. Dean and Harriett moved to Afton in 1983 and then moved to Creston about four years ago.
Left to cherish Deans memory is his wife Harriett Hartsook, Creston, Iowa; his children: David Richard (Joyce) Hartsook, Branson, Missouri; Barbara (Danny) Daniel, Fairbanks, Alaska; Nancy (Don) Wood, Ft. Worth, Texas; Tony Hartsook, Des Moines, Iowa; five Grandchildren: Christopher (Jacque), W. Des Moines, Iowa; Chad (Leigh), Fuquay Varina, North Carolina; Melissa (Saul), Coleman, Texas; Jenny, Fairbanks, Alaska; and Hunter, Des Moines, Iowa; five Great-Grandchildren; one Brother and one Sister.
Preceding Dean in death were his parents; four brothers and two sisters.
