Dorcas Jane Barger, the daughter of Lawrence Dudley and Hazel Dell (Winger) Deacon, was born on September 27, 1921 in Red Oak, Iowa. Dorcas entered enteral rest on May 10, 2015 at Crest Haven Care Center, Creston, Iowa at the age of ninety three years, seven months and thirteen days.
Dorcas graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1939. Dorcas married Kenneth Barger on July 18, 1950 in Raton, New Mexico. Dorcas and Kenneth resided in Pueblo, CO for 30 years where she was a floral designer for 18 years. She also worked for Sears for a short time. Dorcas moved back to Creston where she lived for 35 years.
Dorcas was a member of the American Legion Post #2 Auxiliary in Pueblo, CO and American Legion Post #96 Auxiliary in Lorimor, IA. She traveled the United States with the American Legion Auxiliary for over 50 years. Dorcas was also a member of the Eagles Lodge #1398 in Creston, IA. Dorcas loved fishing, hunting, sewing and quilting. She also loved to tend her flower and vegetable garden.
Left to cherish Dorcas’s memory is her son-in-law: Eugene (Michael Ann) Spradlin, Valparaiso, IN. Dorcas is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding Dorcas in death were her parents; her husband in 2009; daughter: Vicki Spradlin; two Brothers: Robert Deacon and Jack Deacon; and four sisters: Minnie Claiser; Maudie Hansen; Theo Seddon; and Patsy White.
