Dorothy Bielski, 94 of Creston, Iowa entered eternal rest Thursday, January 23, 2025 at Creston Specialty Care. As per Dorothy’s request, she will be cremated and a Memorial Service will be held on May 3, 2025 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Creston. The family will receive friends on May 2, 2025 from at the funeral home. Dorothy will be laid to rest in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Creston Animal Rescue Effort (C.A.R.E.).

Dorothy Ruth (Simon) Bielski, was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on October 15, 1930, the 7th child born to Peter Marie and Anna Magdalene (Kovach) Simon. Dorothy was raised and educated in Pittsburgh where she graduated high school in 1949. Following graduation, Dorothy moved to Chicago, Illinois in 1954 and lived in a Women-only boarding house, the Eleanor Club, where she met life-long friends Rosemary and Sharon. On May 15, 1956, Dorothy married Edward Bielski in Chicago and the couple would be blessed with 7 children: Corinne, Georgette, Nancy, Edward, Linda, Janet and John. 

While in Chicago, Dorothy worked as a Security Guard for Carson Pirie Scott Department Store and later, Bonwit Teller, which was located in the Hancock Building. The family moved to Creston in 1973 and Dorothy worked as a Security Guard for Easters and also taught anti-theft classes for the Creston Chamber of Commerce. In 1979, she received her Real Estate license from Southwestern Community College in Creston. In 1984, her husband, Edward passed away and Dorothy moved to Denver, Colorado where she worked in security at May D & F for 5 years until returning to Creston in 1989. Beginning in 1990, Dorothy worked for Coen Beaty Funeral Home and later Pearson Family Funeral Service until 2004. Dorothy was an avid reader and was a member of the local Elziver Book Club. She enjoyed Crossword Puzzles and participating on KSIB Radio with “Trivia In The Morning”. Dorothy was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Preceding Dorothy in death was her husband, Edward Bielski; a daughter, Nancy Sweeney; her parents and her 6 siblings: William, Genevieve, Mary Louise, Peter, Thomas and John.

Dorothy is survived her daughter, Corinne Larsen of Chicago, Illinois; her daughter, Georgette Walker of Windsor, Colorado; her son, Edward (Nelly) Bielski, Jr. of Austin, Texas; her daughter, Linda (David) Collings of Orient, Iowa; her daughter, Janet (David) Walter of Creston, Iowa and her son, John (Uralee) Bielski of Creston, Iowa. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; and by a sister-in-law, Ruth Simon of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
