Dorothy Marie Yearington, 90, of Corning, died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at the Nora Springs Care Center.
A celebration of life service for Dorothy will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, January 20th at the Christian Church in Corning, Iowa. There will be open visitation from 1:00-8:00PM on Monday, January 19th at Pearson-Coen-Beaty Family Funeral Service of Corning.
Dorothy Marie Yearington was born June 6, 1918, near Orient, Iowa, the daughter of Charley and Julia (Peterson) Ternahan. She grew up and lived most of her life in and around Corning, Iowa.
Dorothys first job was working at the Johnson Cafe. Later, she did housekeeping for many Corning area families. After raising her children she enjoyed selling Avon, volunteering at the Corning Care Center and many activities at the Christian Church. Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, dancing and was involved in many card clubs.
She was married to Charles Yearington on February 1, 1939. They later divorced. He preceded her in death in August, 2004.
Those left to cherish her memories are her children: Lois Van Ness of Nora Springs, IA, Edward Yearington of Carlisle, IA, Mary Jo Priekulis of West Des Moines, IA and Delores (husband Dave) Williams of Chandler, AZ; daughter-in-law, Georgia Yearington of Osceola, IA; sixteen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, June Myers of Corning, IA and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; four sisters: Velma Cassell, Ruby Bradshaw, Lola Johnson and Opal Drew; son, Bill Yearington; son-in-law, Paul Van Ness Jr. and two grandsons: Brandon and Austin Bengston.
Memorials may be directed to the Christian Church in Corning, Iowa.
