Edith Henrietta DeBord, the daugher of Robert J. and Blanche Belle (Chappell) Karg, was born on October 17, 1915 in Pleasant Hill, Missouri. As a young girl she enjoyed being active in 4-H. She attended country school, Pleasant Hill High School and Fedora graduating in May of 1933. In the fall of 1933, Edith moved to Iowa and settled in Creston in September of 1935. Edith married Dale DeBord on October 28, 1940 in Grant City, Missouri, a son Dan would complete this family.
Edith worked at Penneys for a few years, then began as a sales clerk for Recknors Drug Store. She then worked for Foleys until her retirement on July 1, 1984. She also was a county historian for Taylor county.
Edith was a member of the First Baptist Church in Creston where she served many roles including, deaconess, president of the Missionary Society, and teaching Sunday school. She spent her retirement taking care of her yard, knitting stocking caps and mittens for Shepherds Home and crocheting afghans for her family and friends. She also mended items for three nursing homes.
Left to cherish her memory are her five grandchildren: Sean Shannon and wife Roz of San Francisco, California, Bryan Shannon and wife Jan of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Heather Swenson and husband Ryan of Denver, Colorado, Tom Knutson and wife Tina of Washington, Iowa and Tonya Stahmer and Husband Scott of North Liberty, Iowa; seven great-grandchildren; nine nieces; twelve nephews; other relatives and friends.
Preceding Edith in death were her parents, Robert and Blanche; husband, Dale; son, Dan; daughter-in-law, Linda; sisters: Juanita “Tootsie” Weaver, Thelma Snow, Lola Belle Hughes; brothers: Alvin, Clifford, Homer, Robert “Bobby”, Harvey and Henry Karg.
