Floy Madden Wilmarth, daughter of Dr. George H. Madden and Wave Madden Fitch, was born in Taylor County, Iowa on August 13, 1915. She passed away at the age of ninety-seven years on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at Fairacres Manor in Greeley, Colorado.
She graduated from Gravity High School in 1933 and then attended the Iowa School of Beauty Culture in Des Moines. After receiving her cosmetology license, she worked for several years in both Des Moines and Bedford.
On December 21, 1937 she was married to Donald Wilmarth and they established their home in Corning where they lived until Floy moved to Greeley to be near her daughter, Diane.
Immediate family survivors include a daughter, Diane Wilmarth Miller of Greeley, Colorado; son-in-law, Robert N. Miller of Greeley; five grandchildren, Robert Wilarth Miller (wife Marcy) of Windsor, Colorado and Anne Miller Larsen (husband Peter) of Lafayette, Colorado and Andrea Diane Diehl, Caroline Diehl Annin and David Marc Diehl (wife Angela) all of Omaha; and eight great-grandchildren, Robert Daniel Miller, Andrew Richmond Miller, Peyton Diane Larsen, Abigail Anne Akin Larsen, Kulter Gavin Carter, Jayden Anthony Diehl, Aaliyah Janet Annin, and Cadence Corin Annin. She has one surviving sibling, Howard L. Madden (wife Claudia) of Escondido, California.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Donald Wilmarth, in 1997; their daughter, Janet Wilmarth Diehl; her parents; sister, Helen Madden Van Deren; and sisters-in-law, Wilma Wilmarth Dunham and Lois Wilmarth Vernon.
Floy was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church since childhood. She was a member of the United Methodist Women, past president and 50-year member of Chapter CV, P.E.O. Sisterhood, long-time member of Womans Club, member of the Rose Ann Hospital Auxiliary and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She held various offices in those organizations.
She was a wonderful homemaker and filled many roles during the years as daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She cherished one role above all – that of mother. She loved raising her daughters, Diane and Janet. Her family will remember her as a caring and kind mother and grandmother, knowing that she treasured her time with them and was loving and faithful to them in every way.
