Gary Parman,77, of Orient, Iowa passed away Friday, October 25, 2019 at the EveryStep Hospice House in Creston. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM, Tuesday, October 29, 2019 at the Orient Plymouth Congregational Church, 301 W. First Street, Orient, Iowa 50858. Pastor Chuck Spindler officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 AM prior to the service. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Bedford at 2:30 PM Tuesday, October 29, 2019. Gary Dean Parman was born July 14, 1942, the son of Albert Valentine and Cordia Mural (Smith) Parman in Blockton, Iowa. Gary’s family moved several times and in 1950 his parents purchased a farm east of Bedford. He attended a one room schoolhouse where he graduated the eighth grade. After a brief period back in Blockton his family moved to Waterloo, Iowa. He attended Waterloo East High and graduated with the class of 1960.
After graduation, Gary took a position in Appleton, Wisconsin. In September of 1960, he married Jean Walther, two children: Craig Edward and Deborah Yvonne would bless this union. Gary and Jean later divorced. After three years in Appleton Gary was offered a job in Green Bay where he worked in a carpet and paint business and would purchase the business along with a partner. In 1993, he sold his interest and returned to Iowa.
On November 1, 1996, Gary married Ramona Moore. After owning a carpet store in Creston, he was offered a position with Mohawk Carpet Industries as a territory manager. In 2008, Gary retired and moved from northern Iowa to Orient were he has been a member of the Orient Plymouth Congregational Church for the last 11 years.
Preceding Gary in death were his parents; sisters: Juanita Hillegos and Nina Gordon; brothers: Eugene and Kenneth Parman.
Left to cherish Gary’s memory is his loving wife Ramona; children: Craig (Bridget) Parman of Westbrook, Connecticut, Deborah Moen of Madison, Wisconsin, Quentin (Sharon) Dalton of Sharpsburg, Iowa, Nicole (Robert) Brammer of Bethesda, Iowa and Latrisha (Jared) Mains of Clearfield, Iowa; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Goetz of Orient, Iowa; brother, Wilbur (Sondra) Parman of Marion, Iowa; sister-in-law, Martha Parman of Phoenix, Arizona; along with many other relatives and friends.
