Glenn H. Laird, the son of Flora Harriett (Hatcher) and Claude R. Laird was born May 1, 1916 at Lancaster County, Nebraska. Glenn entered eternal rest on Sunday, September 11, 2005 at Creston Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of eighty-nine years, four months, and thirteen days.
Glenn attended school in Elliott, Iowa. On October 28, 1941 he married Margaret Lucille Hein at Rock Port, Missouri. They started farming in Montgomery County, Iowa in 1946 and moved to Prescott, Iowa in 1968.
He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was captured in Northern Africa (Faid Pass) and was a POW from February 1943 until April 1945.
Glenn was a member of the Kline Museum, South-West Iowa Chapter American Ex-Prisoners of War, Prescott American Legion Post # 554, and Farm Bureau.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret in July 2005; brothers, Leland Laird, Orville Laird; sisters, Neva Pollard, Thelma Wynn; brothers-in-law, Donald Mellott, Gail Pollard, Leo Wynn; sisters-in-law, Florence Laird, Mary Laird and granddaughter, Katie Lynne Laird.
Glenn is survived by his son, Wayne (wife Jacque) Laird of Prescott, Iowa; brothers, Nyal (wife Billie) Laird, Waterman, Illinois; sisters, Mary (husband Jack) Francke, Lincoln, Nebraska, Lois (husband Les) Talbot, Lincoln, Nebraska, and Doris Mellot, Red Oak, Iowa; grandson, Jacob Laird of Prescott, Iowa and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
