James LeRoy Ruby, Sr. was born September 7, 1958 in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Harold Franklin and JoAnn (Martin) Ruby. James passed away May 5, 2021 at his home in Creston, Iowa at the age 62 years, 7 months and 28 days. No services are planned.
James received his education in Davenport, Iowa and graduated from West High School in Davenport. He later married Marjorie Ann Privett and became a step-father to Jessica. The family grew when the James and Marjorie were blessed with 2 more children: James Ruby, Jr. and Amanda.
James worked as a Cook in the Quad Cities at many different restaurants for several years. He also cooked in Des Moines, Iowa at Camp Dodge. Later, he helped set-up and tear down carnivals, across the state of Iowa, while he worked for Smith Amusement. In his free time, James had a passion for Pencil Drawing and loved drawing cartoons. He also enjoyed Fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Preceding James in death was his wife, Marjorie, on August 6, 2005; a brother, Rusty Ruby and his parents.
Left to cherish his memory is his son, James Ruby, Jr. of Creston, Iowa; his daughter, Amanda (husband Vincent) Moody of Lenox, Iowa; step-daughter, Jessica (husband Victor) Moody of Winterset, Iowa; and his grandchildren: Daniel, Amber, Andrew, Andrea and Mackenzie. James is also survived by 2 sisters: Tammy Reinders and Babette Melchi, both of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; 3 brothers: Rex Ruby of Davenport, Iowa; Jamie Ruby of Centerville, Iowa and Scott Halter of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and by a brother-in-law, Doug (wife Sue) Privett of Prescott, Iowa.
