Leona Jean McGregor Morris was born on November 28, 1921 in Adams County, Iowa to George and Blanche (Reese) McGregor. Jean entered eternal rest on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at her home in Corning, Iowa at the age of ninety-one years, eleven months and twenty- four days.
Jean attended Corning High School and graduated in the class of 1938. She worked in the office of Dr. Carl Sampson, an eye doctor in Creston, before marrying Leonard Morris on June 15th, 1941.
Leonard and Jean met as children in the Stringtown Community Church through Bible school and Sunday school. Jean and Leonards friendship grew at Sunday school parties and church plays that were shown to packed audiences and enjoyed by actors and spectators alike. They celebrated 67 years of marriage before Leonard passed in 2008. To their union was born: Stephen George (1943), Nancy Lee (1945), and Philip Charles (1951).
Jean taught Sunday school for many years, and enjoyed friendship and fellowship at the Stringtown Community Church and the Corning United Methodist Church. She loved playing bridge, quilting, handwork, and preparing a fine meal for her friends and family. She shared many beloved childhood memories of time spent with her cousins.
Jean was a kind, humble, and strong woman. She is much loved by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Nancy Morris of Prescott, IA and son, Philip (LeAnn) Morris of Corning, IA; grandsons: Payton Bissell of Portland, OR and Peter (Marisa) Bernstein of Chicago, IL; granddaughters: Erica (Joshua) Stephens of Davenport, IA, Erin Bernstein (Michael Alfini) of Chicago, IL, Amanda (Gregory) Lessman of West DesMoines, IA, and Audrey Morris of Bettendorf, IA; great-grandchildren: Lynea Bissell of Tucson, AZ, Payton Ryan Bissell of LaCenter, WA, Charlotte and Elliott Anna Lessman of West Des Moines, IA, Nicholas and Jacob Bernstein of Chicago, IL, and Madeline Stephens of Davenport, IA; her sister-in-law, Virginia Walker of Ault, CO; and her brother-in-law, Clark Schwartz of Waterloo, IA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Morris; son, Stephen Morris; daughter-in-law, Mary (Stewart) Morris; brothers-in-law: Howard Morris Henry Walker; and sisters-in-law: Vivian Morris Helen Swartz.
