John Anthony Giefing

November 6, 1941 — September 4, 2018

John Anthony Giefing, the son of George and Florence Mae (Mahurin) Giefing, was born November 6, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri. John entered eternal rest Tuesday, September 4, 2018, at his home in Grant, Iowa, at the age of seventy-six years.
John attended Center High School in Kansas City, Missouri, through the eleventh grade and would later receive his G.E.D. while in the service. John entered the United States Army in 1958, during the Vietnam War. He served his country honorably and was discharged in 1965.
John married Dorothy Garrett on August 23, 1963 in Dahlonega, Georgia. They had three children: John, Donald, and James. They would later divorce. John was united in marriage to Connie Madison on June 5, 1976, in Kansas City, Missouri. Her children: Yvette, Scott and Jeff, joined this newly blended family. They would later welcome Lisa to the family. They lived in various places after their marriage, settling in Grant, Iowa, in 1990. John was a carpenter and general contractor most of his life. He was someone who could “do it all” when it came to working on and building houses. He continued this work until his retirement in 1995 due to his health.
John had many interests. He was involved in the V.F.W in Kansas City, Missouri. He enjoyed reading, especially “Westerns”. John enjoyed gardening and took great pride canning the produce he raised. He was always tinkering with anything needing fixing.
Left to cherish John’s memory are his loving wife Connie, Grant, Iowa; children: John Giefing, Grant, Iowa; Donald Giefing, Georgia; James (Gail) Giefing, Talking Rock, Georgia; Lisa (Josh) Langenfeld, Norwalk, Iowa; Yvette (Terry) O’Neill, Villisca, Iowa; Scott Brown, Grant, Iowa; Jeff Brown, Grant, Iowa; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; many relatives and friends.
Preceding John in death were his parents; two brothers; and grandparents.
