John Joseph Cimock was born in the Cook County Hospital, Chicago, IL on June 20, 1929. His parents were Lawrence and Kamila (Pietraszewska) Cimoch. John attended Chicago Catholic Schools. Following the deaths of both of John’s parents during the 1940’s, John and his twelve siblings lived among various homes until they grew to legal age. John met Harriet while traveling and working as a hired farmhand throughout the Midwest. On August 6, 1949, John was united in marriage with Harriet Gaskill at the Methodist Church in Red Oak and later at St. Timothy’s Catholic Church, Reno, IA, where they were members for over 60 years. They had five children.
John was a farmer, fisherman, and friend. Harriet and John lived their entire married life in Adams County. After retiring from farming in the Lincoln Center area in 1980, they moved to Corning. John’s hobby was making string rosaries, having made over 200,000. These were sent all over the world. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish John’s memory are his children: Jeanne (Larry) Allen, Estes Park, Colorado; Barbara (Larry) Cox, Des Moines, Iowa; Larry (Violet) Cimock, Creston, Iowa; Allen (Trish) Cimock, Bettendorf, Iowa; Mary Jo (John) Pabon, Chicago, Illinois; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother: Charles (Jane) Cimoch, Mt. Vernon, Washington; sister: Helen Cimoch, Mt. Vernon, Washington; several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.
Preceding John in death were his parents; wife: Harriet in 2007; six brothers; five sisters; mother-in-law: Leona Gaskill; father-in-law: Harry Gaskill.
