Joyce Arlene Means, the daughter of Harold Allen, Sr. and Agnes Lusie (Christensen) Young, was born August 25, 1946, in Creston, Iowa and passed away at Creston Specialty Care on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at the age of 71. When Joyce was 3, the family moved to Linn Grove, Iowa and then on to Rolfe, Iowa before returning back to Creston in 1962. She graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1964. After graduation she began to work at Purolator in Creston. On December 18, 1966 Joyce married Dan Means at the Creston United Methodist Church, one son Lance was born to this union. The two later divorced. Joyce worked at the Cromwell branch of Iowa State Savings Bank until it closed, she then worked at the Creston branch until her retirement.
Joyce had many hobbies, including antiquing, crocheting, and watching cooking shows. She also had a love for racing and attending the Adams County Speedway. Her family brought the most joy to her, especially her grandchildren. Joyce was a member of the Cromwell Congregational United Church of Christ.
Preceding Joyce in death were her parents, Harold Sr. and Agnes; brother, Harold Jr. and brother-in-law, Eugene Applegate.
Left to cherish Joyce’s memory is her son, Lance Means and wife Lori of Creston; grandchildren: Rochelle, Lianna, Londynn, and Lincoln Means; great-grandson, Von Hudson; sister, Cheral Morgan and husband John of Clear Lake; nephews, Terry Applegate and wife Tricia of Gilmore City, and Todd Applegate and wife Jody of Clear lake; as well as many other relatives and friends.
