Juanita Johnston-Cooley was born in Chariton, Iowa on May 27, 1909 to parents, Carl and Mae (Matheny) Atha. She went to be with Jesus at the Maple Crest Nursing Home in Omaha, Nebraska on July 21, 2008 at the age of ninety-nine years, one month and twenty-four days.
When she was a small child, her parents moved to Des Moines, Iowa where she attended school. She began her employment at the telephone company in Des Moines. She met Paul Johnston and they were married in December of 1930. The couple moved to Adams County where they farmed for many years.
Juanita worked at the Rosary Hospital, starting in the laundry department, progressing to Radiology and then became an EKG Technician. After retiring from the hospital, Juanita worked at the local bakery and sold Avon. Juanita was a long-time member of the Corning United Methodist Church.
After Pauls death, she married Howard Cooley, who also preceded her in death.
Left to cherish Juanitas memory are her three daughters: Judy (husband Ivan) Templeton of Bellevue, Nebraska, Vi (husband Robert) Hackett of Merrimac, Wisconsin, Ramona (husband Ronald) Gaskill of Omaha, Nebraska; two daughters-in-law: Sandy Johnston of Corning, Iowa, Patty Johnston of Omaha, Nebraska; ten grandchildren, a number of great-grandchildren, several great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Juanita was preceded in death by both husbands: Paul Johnston and Howard Cooley; two sons: Stanley Johnston and Carl Johnston; a grandson; Douglas Hackett; her parents; three sisters and one brother.
