June Irene Myers, daughter of Charley and Julia (Peterson) Ternahan, was born on May 27, 1930 on a farm near Carl, Iowa. June passed away on July 24, 2012 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of eighty-two years, one month and twenty-seven days.
June graduated from Corning High School with the Class of 1947 and began teaching in country schools after receiving her normal training. On August 6, 1950, June was united in marriage to William Myers. Four children were born to bless this union: Steven, Sandra, Donald and Julie.
June was a child care giver, home health care giver, an Avon Representative and a licensed insurance secretary for several years. She was an active member of the Corning Christian Church where she served as a teacher, Board Chairman, Elder and Worship Leader. June also held CWF offices, was a Deaconess and was in various other offices and church committees. June was the Public Relations Chairman for twelve years with the American Cancer Society in Adams County. She was also a Board Member of the Corning Public Library, Friends of the Library and American Legion Auxiliary, life member of the Adams County Historical Society, member and former officer of the Southwest Iowa Amateur Radio Association, former officer of the Genealogical Society, and life member of the Rose Ann Hospital Auxiliary. June was a life-long volunteer.
Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were Junes pride and joy. Many special times were spent with family and friends, researching for herself and others. She loved tending to her flowers, helping with bingo at the nursing home, crocheting angels for her family or trying new crocheted patterns.
She enjoyed listening to all kinds of music, especially good country music, reading a good book and working with children and senior citizens.
Left to cherish Junes memory are her children: Steven A. (Sandy) Myers of Overland Park, KS, Sandy Carpenter of Grimes, IA, Donald Myers of Corning, IA and Julie (Brian) Matlage of Olathe, KS; twelve grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
June was preceded in death by her parents; step-father; husband, William “Bill” Myers; and five sisters: Velma Cassell, Ruby Bradshaw, Lola Johnston, Dorothy Yearington and Opal Drew.
