Katherine Stoner, 88, of Afton, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at Southern Hills Specialty Care, Osceola, Iowa. Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M., Monday, August 23, 2021, at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery, Creston, Iowa, with Chaplain Matthew Novotny officiating. Burial will at Greenlawn Cemetery, Afton, Iowa. Open visitation will be 2:00 – 6:00 P.M., with family receiving friends 2:00 – 4:00 P.M., Sunday, August 22, 2021, at the funeral home. Katherine Milree Stoner, the daughter of Elgie Vern and Oma Marie (Shaw) Wake, was born December 10, 1932, south of Thayer, in Union County, Iowa. She graduated from Thayer High School, Thayer, Iowa, with the Class of 1951. Katherine was united in marriage to Tommie Richard Stoner on May 20, 1951, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. A son, Tommie Jr., was born to bless this union.
Katherine enjoyed work as a homemaker and also drove a school bus for East Union Schools for a couple of years. Katherine enjoyed being a member of Toastmasters International for 18 years. Her time in this organization included her serving as the Assistant Area Governor for Toastmasters. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Left to cherish Katherine’s memory are her husband, Tommie Stoner of Afton, Iowa; her son, Tommie (Melody) Stoner Jr. of Afton, Iowa; granddaughter, Elizabeth (Eric) Green, of Creston, Iowa; other relatives and friends.
Preceding Katherine in death were her parents; brother, Raymond Wake; and infant sister.
