November 25, 1951 — July 21, 2019

Larry E. Dunning, 67, of Creston, entered eternal rest on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at the EveryStep Hospice House in Creston.  Services will be Monday, July 29, 2019 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center, 809 W. Montgomery Street, Creston, IA, Rev. Mary O’Riley will officiate.  Interment will be in the Green Lawn Cemetery, Afton, IA.  Military Honors provided by the Theodore J. Martens VFW Post #1797 and the Iowa National Honor Guard.  Visitation is open to the public from 11 AM-5 PM Sunday, July 28, 2019 with family receiving friends from 3-5 PM Sunday at the funeral home.  Memorial contributions may be directed to the Larry E. Larry Edward Dunning was born November 25, 1951 in Maryville, MO, the son of Charles Arthur and Bertha Daphne (Shell) Dunning. Larry graduated High school from Bedford High School with the class of 1970. Following graduation, Larry enlisted in the United States Army, serving from 1970-1972 during the Vietnam War. After receiving his honorable discharge, Larry attended auto mechanics school at SWCC and held multiple positions working for Wellmans, Burlington Northern Railroad and various auto shops. In 1978 Larry became an Auto Dismantler at Hulett & Son Auto Salvage until 2000. In 2000, Larry decided to explore the trucking industry and went to work for G&H Motor Freight where he was still currently employed.
Larry was an avid race fan at the Adams County Speedway , driving the pro-street #7 and sponsoring various others and building motors for several others. Larry was still an active fan of the races in Corning and NASCAR Series.
Larry was a member of the American Legion post #70 and Eagles #1398 of Creston and a former meber of the Elks Lodge in Creston. Larry enjoyed bowling, playing cards, racing, riding his harley, playing pool, golf, traveling, salvage yards, casinos and spending time with friends and family.
Larry met Roxanne Lilly on December 31st, 2013 and was united in marriage on June 23, 2018. They enjoyed life to the fullest; traveling, riding the motorcycle, hitting the casinos, bowling on Sundays and most importantly, spending time with family and friends.  Larry knew no stranger.
Left to cherish Larry’s memory is his wife Roxanne, of Creston; Son, Troy (Lacey) Dunning of Creston; Daughter, Michelle Higgins of Gravity, IA; and sister-in-law, Mable Dunning of Keota, IA; 4 step sons:  Jeremy Giles of St. Ansgar, IA, Joshua (Sarah) Winebrenner of Creston, Skylar Lilly of Afton and Dion Giles of Creston; 2 step daughters:  Shyanne (Chris) Bird of Creston and Elsie Giles of Des Moines, IA; 3 grandchildren; 8 step grandchildren; 2 nephews: Charles and Terry Dunning  and 1 great nephew; and many, many friends.
Preceding Larry in death were his parents; grandparents; Brother, Gene Dunning; and step son, Dustin Giles.
