Laura Dean Newton was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska on November 27, 1960, the daughter of DeWitt Talmadge and Marjorie Lucille (Hoschar) Haley. Laura was raised and educated in southwest Iowa where she graduated in 1979 from Villisca High School. Following high school, Laura was united in marriage with Pat Gray and they lived in Prescott, Iowa. Two children, Jimmy and Tanya, were born to this union. The couple later divorced. Laura later married Scott Bohn and the couple were blessed with 2 children, Geoffrey and Corey. The family lived in Greenfield for several years and they later divorced.

In 1994, Laura and her children moved to Creston and she began a 30-year career working for Bunn. Laura married her third husband, Dennis Newton on May 6, 2006. During her time at Bunn, she worked in the Wiring and Refurbishing area. The last several years, Laura worked in the Maintenance and Housekeeping Departments. In 2024, just prior to Thanksgiving, Laura’s declining health forced her to stop working.

Laura and Dennis are members of the Abundant Life Family Church of Creston. While able, Laura loved being outside where she enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, mowing the lawn, camping and fishing. She also loved coloring, doing word search puzzles and crocheting. Laura was a wonderful cook and she enjoyed making her friends, family and other people happy. Laura also had a fondness for animals and especially loved caring for her adopted, puppy mill, Maltese dogs. Her favorite times were those spent shopping at yard sales and the rerun stores. Over the years, Laura accumulated many things she purchased on her shopping sprees and loved decorating her home and work areas with those trinkets. She tried to make sure her house was always clean and tidy, but in her own words she said “but I have a lot of stuff”.

Preceding Laura in death were her parents; her brother-in-law, Larry Pond; 3 brothers: Lloyd, Boyd and Wittie Haley.

Laura is survived by her husband, Dennis Newton of Creston, Iowa; her 4 children: Tanya (Jacob) Tiernan of Winterset, Iowa; James (Alicia) Gray of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; Geoffrey Bohn (significant other, Taylor Hastings) of Des Moines, Iowa; and Corey (Kristina) Bohn of Fontanelle, Iowa; 8 grandchildren: James (Luna), Raijlynn (Chase), Ashton, Ricky and Memphis; Madison; and twins, Silas and Reign; 1 great-grandson, Landen; mother-in-law, Patty Newton (Larry Johnson) of Casey, Iowa.
