Mary Catherine Giza, the daughter of John and Vera (Kostenko) Giza, was born May 15, 1959 in Creston, Iowa. Mary passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 13, 2016 at the Greater Regional Hospice House in Creston, Iowa at the age of fifty-seven years, two months, and twenty-nine days.
Mary was raised in the Afton area and attended school in both Thayer and Lorimor. Following the consolidation of those schools, Mary attended and then graduated from East Union High School with the Class of 1977. Never one to venture too far from home, Mary continued to live in the Union County area the remainder of her life.
Mary worked at Bunn_O-Matic and as a Bartender for several area establishments. She truly appreciated and loved all of the many friends she made in her life. She was also a former, long-time member of the Eagles Lodge in Creston and a former American Legion Auxiliary member.
Preceding Mary in death was her father, John Giza; her brother, Carl Giza and sister-in-law, Linda Giza.
Those left behind to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory is her only child, Colby Giza of Creston; her granddaughter, Adrianna Giza of Grimes, IA and her mother, Vera Giza of Creston. Mary is also survived by her three brothers: Ed (wife Donette) Giza of Council Bluffs, IA; Stan Giza of Osceola, IA and John (wife Sherrill) Giza of Creston; and her sister, Carol (husband Gary) McNichols of Creston; her nieces, nephews, other relatives and all of Mary’s supporters during her illness.
May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn. Mary will be missed by many.
