Maxine Double

Maxine Double, 96, of Creston passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at the Greater Regional Medical Center in Creston. Graveside services will be 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 6, 2019 at Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Memorial Services will follow at 11:00 AM, Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church in Creston. Rev. Cynthia Ripperger, Officiating. Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Presbyterian Church for Christian Education. Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center located at 809 W. The daughter of Loren and Blanche (Bender) Bair, Maxine was born on December 20, 1922 in Corning, Iowa. She graduated from Leon High School in the spring of 1941. Maxine was united in marriage to Orval Delbert Double in January of 1942 in Princeton, Missouri. Two sons: Pat and Tony, were born to bless this union.
In the couple’s early years, Maxine worked as a homemaker and housewife, caring for her sons and husband. During World War II, Maxine worked for the United States Government as a Secretary in Leon, Iowa. Later, she would work for the Creston Public Schools, serving as the Director of Food Service for 19 years. Maxine retired in 1985. Two years later, on September 18, 1987, Orval passed away and Maxine spent much of her spare time volunteering at her church.
Maxine was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Creston and served as both an Elder and a Deacon. She was active in the PW and the Women’s Circles. Maxine also served the youth of her church by teaching Sunday School for more than 30 years. She was also a member of the WNG neighborhood card club.
Besides her husband in 1987, Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; 3 brothers: Jim Bair, David Bair and infant brother, Paul Bair; and a sister, Betty Hoover.
Maxine is survived by her 2 sons: Tony Double of Creston and Pat R. Double of Murdock, Nebraska; 1 grandson, Pat B. (wife Jessica) Double of Murdock, Nebraska; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers: Dennis (wife Sue) Bair of Adel, Iowa and L.J. (wife Joanne) Bair of Overland Park, Kansas; a sister, Donna (husband Shelby) Hill of Boone, Iowa; and by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn.
