Melody White

Melody Elaine (Johnston) White, 73 of Creston, Iowa passed away Monday, January 31, 2022 at Unity Point St. Luke’s Hospital in Sioux City, Iowa after battling several health issues. Melody was a loving mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 5, 2022 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Creston, Iowa. Pastor Jodi Rushing will officiate. The family will receive friends 1:00-1:45 PM, Saturday, prior to the service. Melody will be laid to rest in the Graceland Cemetery following the service. Melody was born October 22, 1948 in Creston, the daughter of Donald and Betty Johnston. Melody was raised and educated in Creston. She attended Creston Public Schools and graduated Creston High School with the Class of 1966. Following graduation, Melody was united in marriage to Alan White and two daughters were born to bless this union: Summer and Danielle. Several years later, a son, Michael and daughter, Abbey were adopted into the family. The couple later divorced. Melody lived at Ft. Benning, Georgia, Hamburg, Emmetsburg and several other towns in Iowa. She also lived in Kansas City and Owego, New York before retiring to Creston.

Melody had a passion for Christ and prayer. Her ministerial and missions work included traveling in Austria, Switzerland and various parts of Europe. She taught at Grace Training Center and the Christian Leadership University. Melody was a Pastor of Prayer in Owego, New York. She enjoyed painting and loved her cabin on Summit Lake in Creston. She also enjoyed being outside tending to her flower garden. Melody found strength in communing with her prayer partners. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Melody is survived by her children: Summer (husband Mark) Cord of Sioux City, Iowa; Danielle Smith (husband Troy White) of Newton, Iowa; Michael White and Abbey White of Sioux City, Iowa. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren: Allyson (husband Evan) Friel, Madeline Cord, Bailey (husband Jason) Huyser, Beau Smith, Brandon Smith and Brady Smith; 2 great-grandchildren: Mckenna Friel and Clay Huyser; 2 sisters: Judy (husband Phil) Tyler of Creston and Jean Harper of Boone, Iowa; former brother-in-law, Bud Harper of Creston, Iowa; 5 nieces and nephews; 15 great-nieces and great-nephews; other relatives and many friends. May God grant comfort and strength to those who mourn.

Melody was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Alan White; a nephew, Shane and a great-nephew, Danny, who was killed in action in Afghanistan.
