Merle Holland, the daughter of William Perry and Dora Blanche (Caldwell) Miller, was born April 7, 1914, in Decatur, Iowa. Merle entered eternal rest on May 3, 2010, at Greater Regional Medical Center, Creston, Iowa, at the age of ninety-six years, and twenty-six days.
On December 23, 1933, Merle married Elvis Herbert Miller. Elvis died April 20, 1953. On August 21, 1954, she married Carl Holland in Leon, Iowa. Carl died in 1990. Merle lived in Grant City, Missouri for several years after her marriage. Merle lived in Mt. Ayr, Iowa for many years, and then moved to Creston in 1972. Merle worked at the Mt. Ayr furniture store which she really enjoyed and was a homemaker for most of her life.
Merle was baptized in the First Christian Church of Grant City, Missouri in the 1930s. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary for many years. She loved her family and took great pride in her home. Merle loved her flowers and music.
Left to cherish Merles memory is her daughter, Sue (husband Jerry) Ferris, Waukee, Iowa; two grandchildren: Jeremy (wife Becky) Ferris, Maryville, Missouri; and Lacey Ferris, Waukee, Iowa; four great-grandchildren: Jacob and Andrew Ferris; and Cade and Cailey Montgomery; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Preceding Merle in death were her parents; both husbands; six brothers: Frances, Roy, Virgil, Fay, Vernon and Clair Miller; and three sisters: Ruth Piercy, Esther King, and Irene Jennings.
