Nancy Lou (Hall) Walter, age 82, of Creston, Iowa, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022 at Care Initiatives, Creston Specialty Care, in Creston Iowa. Nearly born on the banks of the Blue Earth River on June 6, 1940, Nancy was active in Girl Scouts, enjoyed drag racing (instead of chasing) boys in her dad's new car, and played the Cornet in her high school and pep bands.
After graduating from Winnebago High School in Winnebago, Minnesota in 1958, Nancy briefly attended Mankato State University taking classes in art and elementary education. While on a family trip moving her sister Marilyn, from Fort Sill, Oklahoma to Fort Sam, Texas, she met Mervin Walter of Prescott, Iowa. After a brief courtship, they married in January 1960 at the Methodist Church in Winnebago before moving to Prescott.
While Nancy struggled with mental illness most of her adult life, she enjoyed fishing, caring for her pets, and spending time with other mothers in the area to gossip, work on crafts, and painting.
Preceding Nancy in death were her parents, Laura (Kneeland) and Merrill Hall; her niece, Karen Evans; and former husband, Mervin Walter.
Nancy is survived by her three children: Cindy (Michael) Jackson of Prescott, Iowa, Michael (Tammy) Walter of Redfield, Iowa, and Mark (Karen) Walter of Fairview, North Carolina; sister, Marilyn (Eddie) Evans of Winterset, Iowa; nephew, Bruce (Lori) Evans of New Virginia, Iowa; and five grandchildren: Jessica Jackson of Corning, Iowa, Andrew Walter of Davenport, Iowa and Nathan Walter of Redfield, Iowa, and Travis and Abbey Walter of Fairview, North Carolina.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the staff of Care Initiatives, Creston Specialty Care where Nancy spent the last eleven years of her life. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Care Initiatives Hospice of Greenfield, Iowa.
