The Rosary and Christian Wake Service will be at 7:00 PM on Friday, with family receiving friends from 7:30 to 8:30 PM. Memorials may be made in Opals name. Internment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
Opal Victoria Talty was born February 17, 1908 to William and Flora (Sutton) Wheatley in Adams County Iowa. Opal entered eternal rest on Tuesday, December 12, 2006 at Alegent Health Mercy Hospital at the age of ninety-eight years, nine months and twenty-five days.
She attended Corning Public School graduating with the class of 1926, with a Normal Training Certificate to teach. She taught 5 years in Adams County Rural Schools.
On April 11, 1931 she was united in marriage to Richard Talty at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father J. J. Powers officiating. To this union three daughters were born: Joan Rupp, Sioux City, Iowa, Jean Williams, Plano, Texas and Donna Goodrich, Omaha, Nebraska.
Opal was a member of St. Patrick Church, Altar Society, charter member of the RoseAnns Auxliary, the House of History and Iowa Angus Auxiliary.
Richard and Opals sixty-nine plus years married life were spent farming.
Preceding Opal in death were her husband, Richard; her parents; sisters: Lottie Gray, Daisy Christensen, Jessie Sargeant, Cecelia “Toots” Boswell, Hester Wheatley, Emily Wheatley, Wilma White; brothers: Ed Wheatley, Charles Wheatley and William Wheatley, Jr.
She is survived by daughters: Joan (Fred) Rupp; Jean (Norwyn) Williams; Donna (Charles) Goodrich; six grandsons, 1 granddaughter and fourteen great-grandchildren, and brother-in-law, Albert Boswell of Corning.
