Phyllis Armstrong

Phyllis Lee Armstrong, the daughter of Percy “Pete” Edward and Grace A. (Walton) Smith was born on September 14, 1942 in Carbon, Iowa. Phyllis entered eternal rest on Monday, April 21, 2025, at Trinity Center at Luther Park in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of eighty-two years.

Phyllis married John “Johnnie” Armstrong. To this union a daughter Joni Lee Armstrong was born. The couple later divorced.

Phyllis worked many years in the used car business with John and later as a Home Health Aide.

Left to cherish Phyllis’s memory are her daughter, Joni (Mark) Armstrong; nieces: Diane (Mike) Tyson, Liz (Steve) Lindblom, Betty Yearington and Dorthy (Dueling) Donnely; nephews: Ken Hickman, Mike Snyder, Rick (Lynn) Hickman, Randy (Vicki) Hickman, other relatives and friends.

Special thanks to Joni, Ken and Randy for rides to and from the hospital, plus being with me at chemo and blood work appointments and to other family who were there for me. Special thanks to Sandy Thomas, Carolyn Jackson, Yvonne Dennis and Helen. Without the love and prayers from family and good friends, I’d not made it this far.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Donna Hickman, Darlene Swain, Mary Lou Yearington, Beverly Snyder and MayBelle Dueling; nephew, Douglas Yearington; nephew-in-law, Mark Watson; brothers: Paul Swain, Ronald Smith; brothers-in-law, Dallas Hickman and Melvin Snyder.
