Radene May (Brown) Rasmussen was born December 28, 1926 on the farm north of Prescott to Vera (Crouse) and Francis Brown and passed away on May 10, 210 at the Corning Nursing and Rehab Center at the age of eighty-three.
She attended the Miller School – Carl #8 and graduated from Prescott High School in 1944. Following high school she attended Iowa State Teachers College and received her Normal Training Certificate and taught in rural Adams County and Pisgah Community schools.
She married Wilbur “Tater” Rasmussen on February 14, 1947 at the Bethesda Lutheran Church near Moorhead, Iowa. To this union seven children were born.
In 1965 she returned to teaching in the Lenox Community School system, finishing her B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa in 1972. In 1989 she retired from teaching and enjoyed wintering in Mission, Texas.
Radene was a member of Retired Teachers, Quilters Club and Friday Morning Coffee Club. She was a Charter Member of Eastern Star and a member of Prescott United Church.
She is survived by her husband, Wilbur; children: Retha (Kendall) Starek of Ackley, Marilee (Anthony) Kajewski of Dunkerton, Lonnie (Lynne) Rasmussen of Prescott, Tracy (Diane) Rasmussen of Leawood, KS, Kendall (Darcy) Rasmussen of St. Paul, MN; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding Radene in death was infant son, Roger; infant daughter, Cindy; her parents; her brother-in-law, Irvin “Mike” Rasmussen and sister-in-law, Julia Wakehouse.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Prescott United Church.
