Raphael Allan Houck, son of Clifford Earl and Mary Cecelia (Quinn) Houck, was born November 28, 1954 at Corning, Iowa. Ray entered eternal rest on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 at his home near Corning at the age of fifty nine years, eight months and two days.
Ray attended country school in Adams County and graduated with the Corning High School Class of 1972. On August 29, 1985, Ray was united in marriage to Jan Criswell in Las Vegas, Nevada. Two children were born to this union: James Joseph and Jennifer Ray.
Ray enjoyed the Adams County Speedway and has been the promoter of the speedway’s racing events for the past six years.
Ray was a grain and livestock farmer all of his life. He was especially proud of the Dutch Belt Cattle that he raised with his brother Norvell.
Left to cherish Ray’s memory is his wife, Jan of Corning, Iowa; son, James Joseph Houck of Corning, Iowa; daughter, Jennifer Ray Houck of Rippey, Iowa; son, Jeremy Houck of Corning, Iowa; daughter, Jana Criswell-Brown of Greenfield, Iowa; sister-in-law, Phyllis Houck of Corning, Iowa; and one niece, Joni Houck of Des Moines, Iowa.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norvell Houck and nephew Jeff Houck.
Services will be held Monday evening, August 4, 2014 at 6:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church in Corning with the Rev. Ken Rummer and Mr. Larry Johnson officiating. Private burial will be at Oakland Cemetery at Quincy, Iowa on Tuesday, August 5, 2014.
Open visitation will be on Monday, August 4, 2014 from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at the funeral home.
