Renae Scott

Renae Scott, 61 of Creston passed away unexpectedly at her home on Saturday, September 19, 2020.  The family will host a Celebration of Life memorial service at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Dog Gone Rescue, Inc., 205 S. Renae Michelle Scott was born December 2, 1958 in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of John Brown and Betty Jean (Badgero) Scott.  Renae was raised and in the Detroit area and lived there until 1977.  Over the years, Renae has lived in many different places and lived in various different states.  During this time in her life, Renae was married three times and was blessed with five children:  Robin, Sherry, Robert, John and Kyle.  In 2000, Renae and her family settled in Iowa.  In 2001, Renae earned her G.E.D. and enrolled for nursing classes at Southwestern Community College in Creston.  In 2005, she received her LPN degree and has lived in Creston ever since.  Renae and her long-time friend, Melissa Fils, were united in marriage last week, September 17, 2020 in Red Oak, IA.
Although Renae was never employed as an LPN, she was always working.  She worked in Creston for the Trolli Candy Factory, Bunn-o-matic, Hy-Vee and McDonalds.  She also delivered the Creston News Advertiser for 5+ years and genuinely enjoyed getting to know her customers and their pets.  She knew them all by name and would bring the pets a treat each week.    She had a vibrant personality and was an exuberant person in both her personal life and working environment.
Renae had a special place in her heart for pets.  She currently owned and lovingly cared for 6 dogs, including her Chihuahua service dog, Tinkerbell.  Renae loved her family and her pets.
Preceding Renae in death was her parents; her infant daughter, Sherry Mitchell; a granddaughter, Gillian Cotrel; a sister, Lynn Burge and her beloved dog, Domion.
Renae is survived by 4 children:  Robin Sexton (husband Jeff Sterling) of Creston, Robert Mitchell of Omaha, NE, John Cotrel, III (wife Ashley) on Lancaster, MO and Kyle Cotrel of Adel, IA; 9 grandchildren:  Jessica Larkin, Paige Hedgpeth, James Sexton, II, Jayden Sexton, John Cotrel, IV, Piper Cotrel, Logan Cotrel, Kyle Cotrel, Jr. and Lyrique Cotrel; 3 great-grandchildren; her life partner, Melissa Fils of Creston; Renae is also survived by 3 brothers:  John Scott of Las Vegas, NV, Terry Burge of Homestead, FL and Calvin Burge; her sister, Sherry (Chris) Montaro of Michigan; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
