Richard Dick Driskell

December 17, 1935 — February 25, 2019

Richard Arlan Driskell was born in Creston on December 17, 1935.  He was the the third of five children born to Everett Franklin Elijah and Mardell Aileen (Lombard) Driskell.  Dick was raised in Creston and was educated in the Creston Public Schools and graduated from Creston High School with the Class of 1954. Dick continued his education by attending Creston Community College until he was married to the love of his life.  Richard was united in marriage to Donna Lee Abbott on July 10, 1955 in Greenfield, Iowa.  Four children were born to bless this union:  Greg, Lori, Doug and Lisa.

In 1955, Richard began a life-long career working for the Iowa Department of Transportation.  Dick would work 43 years for the DOT, working his way up to Tech 3 status and retired in 1998.  In his working years, Dick was a member of the Creston Elks Lodge and the Crestmoor Golf Club.  In retirement, Dick loved being outside tending to his large vegetable garden and working in the yard.  He enjoyed helping his neighbors with their yard work for as long as he was able.

Preceding Richard in death was his parents; a grandson, Tyler Driskell in 1998; a brother-in-law, Oris Abbott and his Father-in-law and mother-in-law:  Eldon and Lola Abbott.

Dick is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Donna Driskell of Creston; his 4 children:  Greg (wife Mary) Driskell of Creston, Lori (husband Rick) Trygstad of Nevada, IA, Doug (wife Sandra) Driskell of Creston and Lisa (husband Paul) Reitelbach of Clive, IA;  8 grandchildren:  Chad (wife Jilian) Fry, Amber (husband Dan) Tuhn, Gentri Barton, Haley Driskell, Caden Trygstad, Sara Reitelbach and Rylie and Rhett Driskell; 13 great-grandchildren:  Keaton, Holden and Colby Fry, Elie, Emie and Maddux Tuhn, Cael, Nora, Eden and Jude Barton, Majestic and Malika Driskell; 4 sisters:  Patty Jo Phipps of Creston, MaryAnn Abbott of Corona, CA, Karen (husband Mike) Williamson of Fresno, CA and Jeanne (husband Mike) Cary of Urbandale, IA; Many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Dick will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
