Ronald “Ronnie” Lee Walter, the son of Fred and Rose Walter, was born on June 10, 1941. He was raised on a farm in the Prescott area with his five siblings, Carol, Richard, Eldon, Connie, and Lometa. Ronnie’s school years were spent at Prescott Community School where he met the love of his life, Sharon Wynn Walter. The two of them were both graduates of Prescott in 1959. They were united in marriage on June 19, 1960. Born to bless their lives were three very loved children, Denise, Doug, and Jodi. Ronnie and Sharon were also honored to be host parents to Jouni Eskola of Finland. Ronnie passed away peacefully at age 83 on March 10, 2025 at Vintage Park.

The couple had been lifelong residents of the Prescott Community area. They worked together on every aspect of their life farming in the Prescott area. Picking up rocks in the fields, building fence, mowing, working cattle, landscaping, gardening, and planting trees were just a few things they took such pride in. They were awarded the Adams County Outstanding Windbreak Award.

Ronnie loved being a farmer, husband, dad, grandpa, and papa. He shared his talent for wood working, welding, and mechanical tinkering with his grandchildren helping with 4-H projects and building them special things. He was a very patient teacher, and they loved and cherished the time he spent with each of them. He also loved getting on the floor to play with his great grandchildren. Ronnie spent time helping Freshour Construction build ponds and do dirt work. He and Sharon cleaned the Happy Hollow Country Club for many years, and mowed both the Icarian Colony and the Prescott Community School yards.

His real joy in life was his family and friends. Sharon and Ronnie spent many years at the Iowa State Fair camping, as well as following the Kansas City Royals, both things shared with his family. He loved attending activities for his children and grandchildren. He was a wonderful neighbor and always busy helping others. Ronnie became a caregiver to his brother, both of his parents, two of his aunts, and then later Sharon.

Ronnie was very active in his community. He was involved on the Prescott Community School Board for nine years as both a member and President, a 50 plus year member of Circle Lodge #555, holding the office of Worshipful Master twice, Member of the County Health Board, Adams County FSA, Member of the Prescott Disciples of Christ, Church Board Chairman and fix it man, UYF leader, and eight years as a trustee of Prescott Township. He was instrumental in beginning the fund drive for the white fence at the Mt. Zion Cemetery. He designed and built the sign for the Evergreen Cemetery. Ronnie and Sharon were chosen to be Grand Marshalls in the Prescott Septemberfest parade.

Ronnie will always be remembered as someone who had a kind gentle soul and blue eyes that twinkled when he smiled. He was determined to make the best of all of his medical problems. He was onery through and through, and happiest around family and friends, especially his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. He loved with his whole heart and was loved by all those who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory are his two children: daughter Denise and husband Larry Kester of Corning, Iowa and son Doug and wife Terri Walter of Kearney, Missouri; six grandchildren: Bret (Kristy) Kester, Brennan (Sam) Kester, and Curtis Kester, Kami (Sam) DeAlejandro, Heath (Nicole) Walter and Hayden Walter; great-grandchildren: Kasen, Kinlee, Sophia, Evelyn and Nora Kester, Mason and Maddie Walter, and Seth, Ethan, and Daxton DeAlejando; sisters: Carol Hunter, Lometa (Reldon) Spring and brother, Eldon (Cindy) Walter; brother-in-law, Kevin (Joedy) Wynn and sister-in-law, Sandy (Gary) Krauth; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends, along with foreign exchange son Jouni (Nelli) Eskola of Finland: and the caring staff of Vintage Park who gave him the love and 24 hour care he needed and deserved.

Welcoming him to his new heavenly home with arms wide open are his loving wife of fifty-four years, Sharon Walter; daughter, Jodi Walter; great-grandson, Harrison Walter; parents: Fred and Rose Walter; brother, Richard Walter; sister, Connie Sheets; brothers-in-law: Tim Sheets, Paul Wynn, and Sewell Hunter; sisters-in-law: Sharen Walter and Jackie Wynn; in-laws; Woody and Dorothy Wynn; along with other family members and some very dear friends.
