Ruth Jackson

Ruth F. Jackson, 102, formerly of Creston, passed away peacefully on February 21st, 2022 at Iowa Methodist Hospital West in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Ruth was born on a farm northwest of Creston, Iowa on August 19, 1919 to Ed and Mary (McCornack) Fils. She grew up on the family farm and walked to Spaulding Center #5 School before attending Creston High School. After high school graduation, Ruth worked at Menzer’s, a women’s clothing store in Creston.

On December 11, 1947, Ruth married Bradford Jackson in Des Moines. After their marriage, Brad and Ruth farmed near Corning for a few years. In 1952, they welcomed their only son Doug and in 1960 they moved to Ruth’s family farm near Creston. Brad and Ruth spent their lives together farming, raising Doug and, in later years, traveling. After Brad’s passing in 1992, Ruth lived on the farm independently until she was 98 years old. At that time, she moved up to an assisted living facility near Des Moines to be closer to her son.

Ruth was a wonderful cook, making delicious meals always filled with butter, cream, and sugar. She also loved gardening and spending time outside on the farm. She was active in a variety of clubs throughout her life and enjoyed going to the casino and trying her luck at scratch-offs. She adored her son and granddaughter and enjoyed spending time with them in Des Moines or on the farm.

Ruth is survived by her granddaughter Meredith Jackson of Denver, Colorado and daughter-in-law, Carol Jackson of Des Moines, Iowa, along with many other friends and family. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bradford Jackson; son, Doug Jackson; sister, Helen Hollen.

Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to so many. She will be remembered as a strong, smart, independent, woman who loved her family deeply. Sharp as a tack until the end, she was up to date on all the current events and could hold an engaging conversation with anyone, no matter what age.

Funeral services will be 2:30 PM, Friday, February 25, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church in Creston. Rev. Cyndy Ripperger and Rev. Mary O’Riley officiating. Prior to the service, the family will be receiving friends from 1 – 2 PM, Friday at the church. Ruth will be laid to rest in the Graceland Cemetery.
