Shirley Phillips, 85, of Creston, entered eternal rest Thursday, April 9, 2020 at her home. Private graveside services will be 1:30 PM, Tuesday, April 14, 2020 at St. Olafs Cemetery, Fort Dodge, Iowa. Pastor Emily Sauer, Officiant. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family. Shirley Ruth Phillips, the youngest of 8 children born to Clifford and Ruth Viola (Amblie) Johnson, was born January 21, 1935 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. At a young age, Shirley’s family moved to Minnesota and Shirley graduated from Nevis High School in Nevis, Minnesota with the Class of 1954. Shirley enlisted in the US Army in 1955 and was Honorably discharged in 1956, during the Korean Conflict. She married Thomas Harvey Moore in 1955 in Meade, Maryland and a daughter, Cindy was born to this union. She later married, Sheldon Lee Phillips in Fort Dodge in 1964 and her son Terry was born. Shirley raised 6 children, including her step-children.
Shirley worked as a Nurse Aide, Housekeeper in the Fort Dodge Hospital and a Greeter at Walmart in Creston. She was also a Foster Parent to 6 more children.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; 1st husband Thomas; 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Shirley is survived by her daughter, Cindy (Norman) Hutson, Greenfield, Iowa; her son, Terry Phillips, Creston, Iowa; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
