Spencer Sandeman passed away at his home in Creston, Iowa on Sunday morning, April 24, 2022 at the age of 87 years, 7 months and 11 days. Following his wishes, no services are planned. A private inurnment will be at a later date in the Graceland Cemetery, Creston. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family, to be established. Spencer was born September 13, 1934 in Creston and remained here until his passing April 24, 2022. He graduated from Creston High School and went on to Iowa State University. “Go Cyclones” While at ISU he was recruited to help with the construction of Thule Airbase in Greenland where he spent a year. Returning home, with earnings in hand, he bought his first new car. A 1953 red and white Chevy. This was the beginning of a long appreciation of all thing’s car, motorcycle, and plane. He was a gifted storyteller with a sharp wit and a big heart. He never knew a stranger and loved talking to everyone. He loved attending car shows, stock car races, jeep crawls, and truck pulls. He was an experienced wood craftsman with an eye for detail. He learned about a strong work ethic at an early age and it carried him through until his retirement from Southern Iowa Rural Water Association, where he was instrumental in bringing rural water to the surrounding area. His greatest love was always his wife, Gwen, who he married in 1955. Three children were born to the marriage. He was very proud of their 67 years of marriage, his kids, and grandkids. He will be missed by all.
Preceding Spencer in death was his sister, Sherie Goodrich; brother, Steve Sandeman; his parents; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Sue and Addis Routh; and by his uncle, Max Sandeman.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Gwen Sandeman of Creston; 2 daughters: Shelley Wasileski of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Holly (Kevin) Bills of Creston, Iowa; son, Barry (Julie) Sandeman of Creston; granddaughter, Britni (Jake) Kawa; grandsons: Cameron Wasileski and Cort (Ellie) Sandeman; great-grandchildren: Breckyn and Bradley Kawa; Sultan, Vinny and Zailey Sandeman; his aunt, Birdie Sandeman; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
