Steve Nicholas, 75 of Prescott, Iowa entered eternal rest Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at EveryStep Hospice House in Creston, Iowa. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Monday, March 7, 2022 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Creston. Pastor Lauri Greenlee of the Lenox United Methodist Church will officiate. Open visitation from 9 AM-1 PM, Monday with family receiving friends 10-11 Monday. Steve will be laid to rest in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa. Stephen Charles Nicholas, the first of 6 children, and only son, born to Gordon Marion and Jeanette (Martin) Nicholas, was born in Estherville, Iowa December 10, 1946. Steve was educated in Fayette, Missouri and graduated from Fayette High School with the Class of 1964. He later attended Southern State College in Springfield, South Dakota where he received his degree in Automotive and Diesel Mechanics. Steve farmed most of his life in the Adams County area growing corn and soybeans and raising cattle and hogs.
On February 5, 1972, Steve was united in marriage to Jane Rebecca Wickersham in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The couple were blessed with the birth of 3 children: Jason, Mark and Jill. Steve was affiliated with the 1st Whitney Bank in Atlantic, Iowa and served many years on the Board of Directors after his family purchased the bank in 1973.
Steve was a member of ABATE of Iowa and the Creston Eagles Lodge. Steve and Jane have attended the Lenox United Methodist Church for many years. Steve played Men’s League Softball for 28 years and loved riding his motorcycle whenever he had a chance. He has ridden his motorcycle across the USA, including twice to Alaska. Steve also loved his red, Dodge Hellcat Redeye car. He was proud of the car and he never allowed anyone but him to drive it.
Left to cherish Steve’s memory are his wife, Jane Nicholas of Prescott, Iowa; his children: Jason (Brandy) Nicholas of Atlantic, Iowa; Mark Nicholas of Omaha, Nebraska and Jill (Mike) Houchin also of Omaha, Nebraska; 2 grandchildren: Lauren and Avery Nicholas; and 5 sisters: Joan Nicholas of Gresham, Oregon; Lana (Curt) Vangstad of Zillah, Washington; Linda Nicholas (Dr. Gary Feinman) of Chicago, Illinois; Vicky Nicholas (Frank Williams) of Missoula, Montana and Diane (John) Ferree of Fairbanks, Alaska; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Steve was preceded in death by his parents.
