Vern Eugene Eblen was born in Creston, Iowa on January 12, 1945, the son of Earl Hubert and Gladys Pearl (Hiatt) Eblen. Vern was raised on a farm near Nevinville, Iowa and attended elementary school in Nevinville and Cromwell school thru the 10th grade. The Cromwell school closed and Vern attended Creston High School his junior and senior years, graduating with the Class of 1963. Following graduation, he attended Drake University until he had to return home to help on the family farm. He enrolled at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri and earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Accounting. After graduation, he worked for the IRS in Chicago for a year. Vern returned home and started an accounting practice with his close friend Jerry Mikkelsen and his wife, Eileen. He also worked with Draper, Snodgrass before opening his own accounting and tax practice.
Vern was united in marriage to June A. Daub on December 27, 1974, at the Methodist Church in Creston. The couple was blessed with three sons: Chris, Eric and Scott. Vern was a trustworthy and hard-working man who always enjoyed taking care of his clients’ tax and accounting needs. When not working, Vern’s hobbies included working in the yard and garden at home, playing cards with family, riding his motorcycle, and most of all, going fishing. His family and friends took many fishing trips to Canada over the years, which he loved. Vern was also a member of both the Elks and Eagles Lodges in Creston and various professional organizations.
Vern was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Gladys; his sister, Connie Albrecht; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Shirley and Arthur Daub; and brothers-in-law: Eugene, Glen and David (Linda) Daub.
Left to cherish Vern’s passing is his wife of 47 years, June Eblen of Creston; his three sons: Chris (wife Jennifer) Eblen of Papillion, Nebraska; Eric (wife Kristen) Eblen of Linn Creek, Missouri and Scott Eblen (fiancée Chasidy) of Creston; granddaughters: Rachel, Sophie, Nova, Emme, Samantha, Karissa, and Jazmyne; sister-in-law, Janet Daub of Council Bluffs, IA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many, many friends.
