Vernon "Vern" Leo Loudon

Vernon Leo Loudon, 68, was born July 7, 1954 in Creston, Iowa. He passed away on Sunday, December 18, 2022 at Greater Regional Medical Center, Creston, Iowa. The family will receive friends from 10 AM – 12 PM, Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at Pearson Family Funeral Service & Cremation Center in Creston. Following the visitation, please join the family at the Eagles for lunch and to share memories of Vern. Vern will be laid to rest in the Calvary Cemetery in Creston at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be directed to the Vernon Loudon memorial to establish a college fund for Vern’s grandson, Justin Loudon. Vern graduated from Creston High School in 1972 and attended Iowa Central College in Eagle Grove, Iowa on a wrestling scholarship. He was the first All-American wrestler from Creston. Vern’s college career was cut short when he was involved in a life altering car accident coming home from college. Following a long recovery, he began working as a Coremaker at Wellman Dynamics. He retired after 37 years. Vern was a member of the Creston Fraternal Order of the Eagles. He spent many afternoons and evenings conversing with his many friends there.

Vern was a life-long resident of Creston and was recently inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame. It was a wonderful tribute to one of Creston’s finest wrestlers.

Vern married Annie Davis in Las Vegas, Nevada. To this union a child, Trevor was born. The couple later divorced. Vern then married Mary Varney and they were later divorced as well.

Vern is survived by his son, Trevor; his Grandson, Justin; his brother, Dennis (wife Judi) of Norwalk, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Susan Loudon of Des Moines; aunt, Sharon Hower of Creston; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding Vern death were his parents, Paul and Mary Loudon; grandparents, Paul and Teresa Loudon and Lawrence and Stella Weckman; brother, Jim; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family would like to thank Dr. Capson and the nurses at Greater Regional Medical Center and Every Step Hospice for their care and compassion following Vern’s accident. Thank you to all of our friends and family for their prayers and love.
