Viola Hultquist Johnson was born on February 10, 1912 on a farm near Villisca, Iowa to John Luther and Mabel Edith (Nelson) Hultquist. Viola entered eternal rest on August 15, 2016 at Immanuel Fontenelle Care Center, Omaha, Nebraska at the age of one hundred and four years, six months, and five days.
After graduating from Villisca High School, she married Gilbert Johnson from near Strand, Iowa. To this union two children were born.
Viola and Gilbert began their life together on a farm on the south edge of Villisca in 1934, later moving to a farm near Blanchard, Iowa. In 1941 they purchased a farm on the south edge of Creston. During the ensuing years she and Gilbert owned several farms in the Creston area and eventually they moved into the city of Creston, finally residing on Elm Drive. In 2010 she moved to the Prairie View Assisted Living Facility in Creston, then in December, 2012 she moved to Marquis Place Assisted Living in Omaha. As her condition worsened she moved to Immanuel Fontenelle (Skilled Nursing) in Omaha in July 2015. Throughout all of the year she and Gilbert lived in Creston, they were active members of the Salem Lutheran Church.
Viola is survived by her daughter, Lee Maschka (husband Larry) of Omaha; her son, Deane Johnson of Omaha; Grandchildren: Mike Maschka of Glenwood; Debi Cox of Des Moines; Todd Johnson of St. Joseph, MO; and Michael Johnson of Richmond, VA; her sister, Fern Brown of Corning; along with nine great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert in 1992; her grandson, Steven, in 2009; her daughter-in-law, Kathie Johnson, in 2013; and her sisters: Florence in 2008; and Marveline in 2011.
