Virginia S. Boden

September 2, 1925 — December 22, 2018

Virginia S. Boden, 93, of Creston, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018 at the Afton Care Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston with Father Kenneth Halbur as celebrant. Interment will be at the Calvary Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 1:00 to 7:00 PM Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at Pearson Family Funeral Service and Cremation Center in Creston. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, followed by a Christian wake service and the Rosary. Memorial contributions may be directed to the St. Malachy Foundation. Virginia Sophia (Hafner) Boden was born September 2, 1925, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Raymond Arthur and Justine (Eichinger) Hafner. She attended kindergarten at St. Boniface School in Philadelphia. Her family moved across the Delaware River to Gloucester Heights, New Jersey. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School from first through 12th grade, graduating with honors in June of 1943. She then began to work in Philadelphia at AT&T as a teletype operator.
On August 11, 1945 Virginia married Carroll Boden from Creston, who was stationed with the Marine Corps as a guard at the Philadelphia Navy Yard. They came to Creston in December of 1945.
Virginia was a homemaker, but kept busy outside the home. Her faith was very important to her. She belonged to Holy Spirit Parish, Catholic Daughters of America and the Creston Council of Catholic Women.
Left to cherish Virginia’s memory are her children: Mary (husband Randy) Greer of Homosassa, Florida, Paul (wife Kay) Boden of Creston, David (wife Connie) Boden of Canon City, Colorado, Greg (wife Lisa) Boden of Indianola, John (wife Linette) Boden of Norwalk, Angie (husband Larry) West of Creston, and Janet (husband Nick) Meisenheimer of Greenfield; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hafner and Nadine Dorsey.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Carroll Boden, Jr.; husband, Carroll, Sr.; sisters, Dolores McCann and Mary Benecke, and brothers, Raymond and Gerard Hafner.
