Virginia Torrey Kayser-George

October 22, 1920 — March 8, 2009

Virginia Torrey KAYSER-GEORGE, 88, of Sun City, AZ, formerly of Creston, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2009, following a yearlong struggle with cancer. Born Virginia Van Atta on October 22, 1920 in Durham, NC. Torrey later attended college at the University of Missouri and Drake University, where she earned both B.S. and M.S. degrees while engaging in a career of elementary education here in Creston. Torrey is survived by her husband of eighteen years, Laurian George; brothers Earl and Jack Van Atta; twin sister Vaunceil Ketchum; two sons, Louis and Mark Kayser; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Torrey was preceded in death by her first husband of forty-six years, Herbert M. Kayser.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 21st at 10:00 a.m., the Reverend Scott Vandenheuvel officiating. The service will be followed by a reception at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be designated for the First Presbyterian Church or the area Hospice.
