William Daniel “Bill” Bohn, Jr., the son of William Daniel and Viola (Johnson) Bohn, was born on February 11, 1939 in Lamoni, Iowa. Bill passed away early Thursday morning, January 23, 2014, at Greater Regional Medical Center, Creston, Iowa at the age of seventy-four from complications of cancer.
Bill graduated from Clearfield High School in 1957. Bill married Shirley Kay Lyddon in Mt. Ayr and four children were born to this marriage. They divorced in 1981. Bill served in the army from 1960 – 1966 where he was based out of Alabama, Germany, Georgia and Korea.
Bill was very much into his music of which he played Bass Guitar, Steel Guitar and sang vocals for the Country Rhythm Boys. He worked a number of years for NFO in Corning and owned his own upholstery business. Bill later traveled with the band Rio Grande to Des Moines where he met and married Sue Sample in 1982. He later worked security at Prairie Meadows in Altoona where he retired. Bill and Sue moved to Creston in 2008. Bill continued to enjoy his music, working in his yard during his retirement, and enjoyed spending time with his beloved cat, Sassy.
Bill recorded a record in the 1970’s which was heard by many via KSIB and many other radio stations.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William and Viola Bohn of Diagonal; his brother, John Bohn of Oklahoma City, OK; and an infant son, William Jeffery Bohn in 1958.
Bill is survived by his wife, Sue of Creston; his daughters: Sandy (Dan) Miller, Walcott, IA; Cindy (Mark) Oliverius, Tipton, IA; and Laurie (Darren) May, Beecher, IL; his sons: Steve (Holly) Bohn, Corning; Scott (Vickie) Bohn, Creston; and John (Jennifer) Blanchard, Altoona, IA; Nineteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his sister, Linda (Eldon) Starmer, Creston; his sister-in-law, Gloria Bohn, Oklahoma City, OK; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
