Wilma Brown

Wilma Marie Brown, passed away on February 28, 2025, at the Clearview Home in Mt. Ayr, Iowa. She was born on January 30, 1932, in Grand River, Iowa, where she spent her early years before eventually moving to Creston. Wilma was a proud graduate of Grand River High School, having finished her studies with the Class of 1951.

For thirty dedicated years, Wilma worked in the Medical Records Department at Greater Community Hospital of Creston, where she had the honor of serving as Supervisor for the final fifteen years of her career. Her colleagues admired her soft-spoken demeanor and her caring nature.

On June 4, 1951, she married the love of her life, Ellree Max Brown, in her hometown of Grand River. This union marked the beginning of a beautiful journey intertwined with love, faith, and family. A devout member of the First Baptist Church in Creston since 1960, Wilma’s Christian faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her compassion and kindness towards others.

Wilma's legacy continues through her four beloved grandchildren: Jamie, Moya, Ozley, and Machaela; her three great-grandchildren: Collin, Madelyn, and Waylon; and her great-great-grandson, Hank. She is also survived by her former son-in-law, Ron Waffle, as well as several other relatives and friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Wilma is preceded in death by her husband, Ellree Max Brown; her daughter, Dixie Waffle; her parents, William Franklin and Lois Louise (Foland) Steen; and her two brothers, Don and Doyle Steen.

A graveside service to honor Wilma's life will take place on March 11, 2025, at Westerville Cemetery in Grand River, Iowa, beginning at 1:00 PM. As we remember Wilma Marie Brown, the family will host a luncheon at the Community Center in Grand River following the interment.
